This highly structured wine is produced only in exceptional years, after careful selection of the finest grapes and with vineyard yield deliberately kept low. It is matured for nearly two years in oak barriques and for the same amount of time in the bottle before it is put on the market.
Big on character, the wine’s scents of marasca cherry typical of Montepulciano grapes blend elegantly with those of wood. Suitable for lengthy ageing.

Vinification the grapes are destalked, pressed and fermented with maceration on the skins for about 15 days followed by racking and malolactic fermentation.
Refinement for 18 months in barriques and 24 to 30 months in the bottle.
Color deep, dark ruby red tending to garnet.
Aroma intense, with a complex fragrance of ripe red fruits over which the marasca cherry prevails, blending with delicate spiciness and the vanilla note of wood.
Taste sapid, mellow, warm and velvety, with pleasing hints of fruit jam and licorice root; very lengthy persistence.
Ageing when well conserved it can be aged up to ten years and even more for exceptional vintages.
Pairings excellent with grilled meats, game and wildfowl and very aged cheeses.
