The origin of its name comes from the high peak of the Gran Sasso Mountain, which is also called Corno Grande (Big Horn). Il Grande is produced from 100% selected Montepulciano grapes, cultivated in our Fosso Corno Estate in Roseto Degli Abruzzi. The aim is to produce a special wine with a great structure and a delicate elegance, thanks to the Montepulciano grapes. After maceration, the wine is put in oak barrels of 500 lt.for about 12 months. Then it is kept bottled for 2-3 months before the release.

Area of production: in Northern Abruzzo, between the Adriatic coast and the town Teramo, there’s a small hilly production area, where the Montepulciano gets the designation: COLLINE TERAMANE D.O.C.G. MONTEPULCIANO D’ABRUZZO.

Variety: 100% Montepulciano grapes.

Vineyard: our Fosso Corno Estate is located in Roseto degli Abruzzi and covers 30 hectares on a single hill, facing the Adriatic Sea. The vineyards from which we produce “Il Grande Silenzio” are characterized by the special attention that is dedicated to the pruning. The aim is to limit fruit production and to create ideal conditions for air to circulate around the productive layer of the vines. These are the essential conditions for ensur- ing perfect ripening of the Montepulciano grapes.

Harvest: the harvest takes place in the period from the end of September to the mid of October.

Vinification: after a 14-days fermentation, the wine relaxes in steel vats. In december, the wine undergoes a second fermentation. The wine is poured on the previously dried grapes of Montepulciano and this pro- cess triggers a second fermentation that conveys to “Il Grande Silenzio” an important structure and elegance. The wine relaxes then for about 12 months in french oak barrels of 500 lt (Tonneaux).

Winemaker’s notes: a deep, ruby, juicy red. Delicate aromas of plum, dried berry, black tea and walnut flavor, full-bodied in the mouth. It comes across as full and vigorous, with chewy tannins and a long, flavorful finish.

Pairings: pasta with meat sauces, roasted red meat, venison and game, cheese.

Ideal serving temperature: 18°C

Alcohol: 14.0% vol*
