Il Falcone Castel del Monte Rosso Riserva DOCG 2013 was inserted into the special top list edited by Robert Parker Wine Advocate's wine critic, Monica Larner: "THE DECAMERON: 100 WINES FOR THE QUARANTINE" with a score of 92/100 pts!
“Rivera's 2013 Castel del Monte Riserva Il Falcone is a blend of 70% Nero di Troia and 30% Montepulciano, and the wine is aged in a combination of botte grande and barrique for 14 months. Like the other reds from Rivera, it sees a nal resting phase in glass-tiled cement vats before its commercial release. Showcasing the austerity and elegance that I would associate with the times of the Holy Roman Emperor, this wine is precise, linear and tight. Federico II was indeed a visionary architect, man of science and falconer sportsman who built the octagonal Castel del Monte after which this wine appellation is named. It deserves a regal dish of roasted game".
IL FALCONEis one of the most prestigious red wines of Apulia whose name was chosen by Rivera to remember Emperor Frederick II of Swabia who built the castle called Castel del Monte near Andria so that he could indulge his passion for falcony. The castle later gave its name to the surrounding D.O.C and D.O.C.G. area.
The wine is obtained with carefully selected grapes sourced from the oldest among the estate’s vineyards. In the blend of indigenous grape varieties, the main grape, Nero di Troia, gives to the wine its great character and structure, while Montepulciano contributes to its roundness.
The maturation for 14 months in oak and for a further year in the bottle contributes to refine its great structure and develop its classic personality and elegance.
